Assalamualaikum Peeps!
How's your day? I hope you always in a pink !
This time I would like to tell you about the first week of industrial training as a practical teacher at Taska Syaz Gong Badak.
Today is
the first day assigned to an internship at the Taska. The selected Taska is
Taska Syaz Gong Badak branch. This Taska is just next to the practical
place during Term 1. I started my practicum starting on 26 September until 2
December 2021 which is equivalent to 10 weeks.
On the
first day at Taska, I was briefed by Taska's supervisor, Mrs. Marina. Mrs.
Marina explained about our duties at the Taska, round trip times, rules,
schedules, and so on. I was assigned to take care of two and three-year-old
children during the practical period of term 2. In the meantime, every day I
would be accompanied by a practical partner and a Taska teacher.
On the first day, I didn’t do any activities because I took the time to get to know the children and adjust to the set schedule. In the meantime, I explored the Taska to see any equipment or toys that could be used in the future.
I also inserted some pictures of the Taska.
At two
o'clock in the afternoon, I was allowed to return. Throughout the first day of
Term 2 practice, I found that each child has different behaviors that make us
think about how they were raised at home. However, each child has their
specialties.
Every
morning I would greet the children who came to the Nursery from 8.00 am to 8.30
am. Children are allowed to play freely in the field area inside the Taska.
Having been instructed to enter the Taska, I made sure all the children
arranged their slippers on the shelves. This thing caught my attention because
children have been taught from an early age to make sure their stuff is neatly
arranged in the right place. Children are allowed to watch television. Teachers
will install Zikr or cartoon stories to entertain the children's day.
After the
children ate at 9.30 am, I asked the children to make a circle by holding hands
and sitting down. I told the children about the activity to be carried out
which was the activity of jumping from one place to another. I describe the
activity while making examples to make sure the children can see a picture of
what the activity will be doing. In the beginning, I warmed the children's
bodies by asking the child to walk, run in one place, run, jump, and others.
After that, I jumped to another place and asked the children to follow me from
behind. This jumping activity is done several times in different places because
children love to play that involves their physical. Play is a children's
nature. After that, I let the children do the activity under my observation.
Afterward,
when I saw the child as exhausted, I asked the child to take a break from doing
the activity by inhaling and exhaling. Children follow my instructions well and
follow my actions. This activity can improve their gross motor skills in at the
same time, they have fun.
At 11.00 am, I make sure the children’s pampers are changed because at 11.30 am they are scheduled to eat and play freely. After that, the children were given milk and slept in their places. My job is just to monitor and take care of the kids while they sleep. As usual, I was allowed to go home at 2.00 pm.
On the
third day, I decided to do an activity that focused on children’s fine motor
skills. The activity that has been done is the activity of holding a colored
pencil. In the beginning, I let the children hold on in their way. After that,
I fixed their fingers to the correct position. At first, the children seemed
uncomfortable with the way the hold was, however, I keep trying to correct it
and distract them. The teacher asks the children to create a style such as
drawing in the air using colored pencils. Various things are drawn by children,
among them are letters, shapes, and others.
Children
find this activity interesting because children can use their imagination which
can help their cognitive skills. This activity is done after the children eat
because, in the morning, children usually do free activities by watching
television while learning. Even just watching television, children can learn
something from it, this is because, in this sophisticated age, various learning
videos in cartoon versions allow children to learn something by using visual
sensors.
But, while there are pros, don’t forget about the cons. Where children are more likely to get eye pain if they spend too much time watching television. As an educator or parent, we need to ensure that the time allocated to children in watching television is at a safe level. The screen time method is highly recommended to be applied in children's lives.
29 September 2021 (Wednesday)
I have
completed an activity that can help the fine motor skills of 2 and three years
old children which is the paper tearing activity. I chose this activity because
I feel fine motor skills are very important to children and children are in a
critical stage of development. I don't use regular color paper. I use colored
paper like a rainbow to draw the children’s attention. When planning for the
learning and teaching process, teachers need to emphasize the characteristics
of effective teaching aids. This is because it plays an important role in the
process.
As I showed
the colored paper, the children ran to get it. This shows that the teaching
aids used are effective teaching aids. Before starting the activity, I
introduced the colors that were on the paper and stated the activity to be done
while showing an example in front of the children. This step is important to
ensure that the child understands the instructions given by the teacher.
The children tear the paper by pulling with both hands as hard as they can.
After being noticed, I corrected the position of their fingers and tore the paper together. Children improvise their skills by following what is learned. The teacher observed the children doing the activity and found that the children were able to tear the colored paper using the correct technique.
After the activity was completed, the children were asked to pick up the torn paper and throw it in the trash. Children follow my instruction well. In the meantime, it teaches children to keep their environment in a clean condition and rubbish should be disposed of in the proper place. Every act of a child is an activity to the child. Never stop teaching children because children are still in the process of learning and growing.
On the last day of the first week of practicum at Taska, I chose to do
activities with the children after they ate at 9.45 am. before that, children
are given time to watch cartoons on television. The story can also be
considered as teaching aids in the teaching and learning process. Through the
story, children can learn a variety of things. Everything that is around a
child can be thought of as teaching aids.
After the children finished eating, the children recited the post-meal
Dua and were given toys to fill their time. I had attracted three children to
do the activity. I chose to create an activity of classifying colors and
improving the children’s fine motor skills. I introduced the available
materials, namely pom pom ball, paper cup, and clamps. First, the colors of the
pom pom ball had been introduced one by one and asks the children to find
things around them that are the same color as the color of the pom pom ball
shown.
After that, I introduced paper cups and clamps. I explained how to do the activity while making a demonstration to ensure that the children can see it. Afterward, I gave the clamps to the children one by one and teaches them how to open and close the clamps. After making sure the children were able to control the clamps well, I asked the children to start the activity under my observation.
I found that all the children were able to classify the color of the pom pom ball according to the correct color done very well. However, the children had trouble controlling the clamp where the child took the pom pom ball by hand and placed it on the clamp. The children were supposed to pick up a pom pom ball on the floor using clamps.
Overall the children did very well and at the end of the activity, the children were able to express the colors of the pom pom ball that was in the paper cup.
