Assalamualaikum Peeps!
How's your day? I hope you always in a pink !
This time I would like to tell you about the fourth week of industrial training as a practical teacher at Tadika Syaz Gong Badak.
8 August 2021 (Sunday)
In the fourth week, I was assigned to take care of a six-year-old. However, I found that only a few children attended Tadika due to the disrupted water crisis in Kuala Nerus. Even though only a few children came, I still tried to plan interesting activities so that they were interested in the teaching and learning process. On the first day of this week, I have decided to recall what I taught during the first week which is about the life cycle of butterflies.
I do this because I want to make sure the child remembers and masters what they have learned before. I found that the children were able to master it and share it. I have found that using existing teaching aids can increasing children's understanding and master the previously lesson. Next, I continued the teaching and learning process by making butterflies using their fingers as the body of the butterfly and using a plastic spoon as the head and body of the butterfly. The children liked the activity because they were allowed to decorate and color the butterflies according to their creativity. I use a plastic spoon as the head and body of the butterfly as this is stronger and children can hold it without worrying about damaging the body of the butterfly.
In creating an activity, an educator must ensure that the materials used have important aspects such as safety, strength, attractive colors, and others. This should be emphasized when planning the process so that children can do activities without being exposed to any unwanted and fun things.9 August 2021 (Monday)
The buying and selling process took place on Monday. However, before starting the activity, I had introduced the Malaysian currency worth RM 1, RM 5, and RM 10 using replica banknotes. The replica is very effective to use in the teaching and learning process because children can use their visual senses and help improve their understanding of the banknote. I had introduced the banknote based on the color and the number on the banknote. In the meantime, I have narrated the value of each of these currencies and given examples by buying items. To test the children's understanding in more depth, I have conducted a buying and selling activity. I have given a color paper representing the money that has been introduced. Through the colored paper, the children were able to recognize the value of the money after showing the demonstration, the children started the activity under my observation.
Children are also able to answer money-related questions well in the closure step. It is because children have actively involved themselves and experience using their senses. As an educator, I need to increase activities that involve the active involvement of children to help children in the teaching and learning process.
Maal Hijrah Holiday
Today is the day I get the vaccine. I have informed the matter to the Tadika's teacher on duty and was informed to come to the Tadika after the matter is completed. However, because I finished in a late time, the teacher informed me that I did not have to come to the Tadika to give me a break.
12 August 2021 (Thursday)
On the last day of the week and the day of making activities, I had planned to make a mat weave to see the coordination of the children’s eyes and hands whether they had mastered it or not.
If a child has problems in eye and hand coordination, I will increase activities that involve eye and hand coordination. I have used a white base and red and blue stripes. Before the activity started, I asked the children to state the color of the paper I was holding to see if the children could recognize the colors or not. I found that all the children were able to recognize the colors shown and in fact, they were able to find items that had the same color as the color paper shown. This is a good thing in the development of children's cognition. After that, I showed a demonstration to the children on how to do the weaving so that they could do it well and understand how to perform the activity. While doing the activity, I found that there were a number of children who were able to perform the mat weaving activity well under my observation. However, there was a child who almost gave up to complete the weave because the child had to make it back because he skipped a line where he had to insert the strip into each line that had been cut. Therefore, I have helped and monitored the child as a support in order to be able to complete it well. In other words, this illustrates that an educator cannot expect children to be able to complete their assignments completely without the teacher’s help. Every teacher must ensure that every child is not left behind and helped if they need help in various aspects.
